What To Expect After Knee Replacement ?

Recovery and rehabilitation following a Full or partial knee replacement are just as important as the surgery itself.

If you fail to follow proper recovery protocols, the ultimate result of the surgery may be compromised.

Next Day After Surgery

Typically, the day of surgery, physiotherapist will help you stand up and take a few steps walker.

Patients who walk or stand quickly after surgery, are more likely to recover faster and will also have less complications.

Various pain-relief methods to make sure you are comfortable during your hospital stay.

Most patients will be discharged when they have their pain under control and they are able to get in and out of bed and walk short distances.

Returning Home

Most patients are able to go directly home within 3 to 4 days after surgery.

A majority of patients resume most activities of daily living by six-weeks after surgery. If you had both of your knees replaced at the same time than your hospital stays and recovery may take longer.

Patient is expected to continue doing knee range of motion and strengthening exercises

Back To Work

If you work at a sedentary job, you may be able to return to work after four to six weeks.

A Better Quality Of Life

Knee replacement recovery can be painful at first, but after returning to home and completing their physical therapy, you will find yourself adjusting to your new knee and enjoying a more mobile lifestyle.

“It is a team as the patient has to do their exercises in order to obtain functional range of motion and the strength to perform those activities that are important to them. If we doctors  do our job and they do their job, then we will have a great result”
